there's nothing like your first love – the memories...the magic...and the intense joy that could never be forgotten...
cheesy as it may sound, music is and will always be my first love. it's sad because ever since i moved back to nyc, i haven't had much to do with music, outside my iPodded commutes back and forth from school, congregational singing at church, and my occasional home iTunes sing-a-longs. though i had often thought about music, i had a completely new life to pursue and i wanted to focus all my time and energy on being the best graphic design student that i could be...
since arriving home though, i've felt a little more me. i played piano for the first time since august in the christmas service at church. it was such a blessing to get to play with my worship team again and i was so overjoyed that at times i felt like i had to fight back tears. i also had the chance to arrange a x'mas medley. as i brainstormed different ideas for a thoughtful x'mas present that wouldn't blow my student budget, it suddenly dawned on me that music was the perfect way for me to wish all my friends a merry christmas. as much as i love design and my new life studying it, there is no replacement for music. it has been a part of my life since day one and i know that feeling will never go away.
as a new year waits around the corner and i compile my new list of resolutions, i know what my #1 will be. i want to succeed in being a designer and continue to learn and absorb as much as i can while i'm in school BUT i also want to make sure that there is a balance in life between who i already am and who i want to be.
